14th October - Today's News: Hurricane Gonzalo Moves Through Caribbean

Hurricane Gonzalo forms in Caribbean after battering Antigua as a tropical storm.   It now has the Virgin Islands in its sights before heading for Puerto Rico.

Meanwhile, over the weekend, Fay becomes hurricane after brushing Bermuda with high winds, rain but soon reverted back to tropical storm status

And over in the Pacific, Hawaii on watch as Tropical Storm Ana could hit Big Island as a hurricane

A fair bit of rain here over the past 24 hours: 27.1mm in my garden (spread over 2 days) and much more elsewhere with some homes in Essex flooded amid heavy rain and at least one record tumbles as there's a month's worth of rain in little more than a day - Monday was Wattisham's wettest October day ever.

And in the south of France, yet more heavy rain strikes Gard and Herault over the weekend whilst in Switzerland, heavy rain triggers landslides in Ticino




NASA reports hottest recorded September - despite no El Nino, low solar activity and, allegedly, no global warming ....  UAH satellite records however show September as only the 7th warmest.  We await NOAA data with interest.

A greener Arctic may be a warmer one - is the Arctic warming faster than anywhere else because on increased plant growth?   Another positive feeback ....


Oh, and there is no five day heatwave on the way - it is simply going to go from being cold, wet and windy to warm, wet and windy ....
